In the heat of summer, I don't touch my oven unless absolutely necessary. In fact, I really can't be bothered to do much "cooking" at all.   It's all about slicing, chopping and dressing.  The beauty of summer produce is that it really doesn't need much more than that. Judging from the glorious goods in our box this week - there's hardly a reason to cook at all.  I hope the following recipes help you achieve the heights of summer laziness I aspire to....

I recently read an article about people who eat the same thing for lunch every day. There are multiple reasons to make this choice - easy to prepare, cheap, and tasty are common drivers - particularly for those of us who work in an office every day.  One fellow ate a peanut-butter sandwich, with various fruit, vegetable, and dessert accompaniments for 25 years and he is still at it - even now that he's retired!  He says "he's never stopped liking it"....

The fruits of spring continue to burst forth - figuratively and literally.  Finally, finally, the rain let up and strawberries poked their magnificent fire truck red heads up out of their green leaves.  A more demure pencil asparagus is gracing us with its presence and delicately flavored white hakurei turnips are waiting to be sauteed in butter and consume alongside a fresh, crisp glass of white wine. I don't know about you, but when I get a bunch of kale my first thought is to sauté it with garlic.  This morning however, I threw it into my smoothie. Despite its savory reputation, kale has exactly zero impact on the sweetness of a smoothie.  But it does turn everything a lovely green color and now it's loaded with more vitamins and antioxidants than ever so that I can walk around with a virtuous swagger for the rest of the day....
