One of my favorite fruits just got Crispred!

October 9, 2018

The delightful but rarely available ground cherry or physalis had a dose of gene therapy to make it easier to farm. Unlike GMO produce which has external genetic materiel added to it Crsipr removes something through gene editing. Now these plants which were hard to harvest can produce tidier bushes, larger fruit and be more readily available.

Do you think this is good progress, a further step in traditional plant breeding for best traits, or more along the road of industrialization of food with patents and other limitations for small farmers? Would you eat Crispred produce?
